Experience Local Culture in a Traditional Japanese City

Rise's House is the only private house rental near Nishio Station.
It is not luxurious, but it is a comfortable and relaxing space.

Rise's House is not just a place to stay, but also a place to connect with the community.

Komura Rise, who was born and raised in Nishio, can recommend places to eat or give you a tour of little Kyoto.

Nishio is renowned for its green tea, and the tea ceremony is highly popular here.

Rise's House has a tea room, and if you would like, you can drink your own powdered green tea ground on a tea grinder or experience a simple tea ceremony.

This photo is of our “grandma” from the historic charcoal shop across from the inn. She often chats with us and gives us flowers. Guests at the inn can feel like part of the community by experiencing her kindness.

Born in Nishio City, Aichi Prefecture, in 1999, I graduated from Hitotsubashi University’s Faculty of Economics and joined Hoshino Resorts. In January 2024, I decided to go independent.

During my college years, I studied abroad at the University of Michigan and King's College London, thanks to a scholarship. I was amazed by how many fans of Japanese culture there were overseas. Inspired by this, I started introducing Japan on YouTube and TikTok, gaining a total of 15,000 followers in six months.

After returning to Japan, I realized that Nishio was full of Japanese-style attractions like matcha and eels, which are top-level in Japan, Aichi’s only Little Kyoto, and many temples and shrines that blend into the city. This sparked the idea of opening an inn in Nishio centered around Japanese culture.

To gain on-the-job skills in the lodging industry, I joined Hoshino Resorts after graduating from university. I got hands-on experience in front desk operations, guest room cleaning, and restaurant service at Risonare Yatsugatake.

In November 2023, when I returned to my hometown for a childhood friend’s wedding, I met supportive people at the city hall and discovered a wonderful vacant house. This encounter inspired me to make a U-turn and open a private house rental called “Rise’s House.”

Eel (esp. the Japanese eel)

It boasts one of the nation's largest catches of eels and has a full lineup of eel restaurants. You cannot leave without tasting the good quality recognized by wholesalers and craftsmen throughout the country.

Little Kyoto

Nishio City is the only city in Aichi Prefecture to be recognized as Little Kyoto. Nishio Castle is the center of the city, and many Japanese history textbook figures, such as Ieyasu Tokugawa and Hideyoshi Toyotomi, are associated with the city.
In fact, Aichi Prefecture has the largest number of temples in Japan, and Nishio City is one of the best in the country, with an astonishing 10 temples within a 5-minute walking distance from Rise's House.

Nature

Matcha fields as large as Tokyo Disney Resort, Sakushima Island of art, Tombolo mudflats where you can walk to uninhabited islands on paths created by the rising tide.
